Enrollment Plan · Dallas College
Everything below is a step to do — in order. Check each box as you finish it. Start with the two orange Do first cards; they take the longest to process, so they should be moving today.
Both take days-to-weeks to process. Kick them off before anything else.
Ask your high school to send your final, official transcript directly to StudentTranscripts@DallasCollege.edu. It must come from the school, not from you. Get an English translation made — Dallas College needs to read it.
You are a U.S. citizen, so you qualify. Go to studentaid.gov, create your FSA ID, and file. Use Dallas College school code 004453. A Pell Grant can cover your tuition — this is a grant, not a loan.
Do them in this order. Each one unlocks the next.
Fill out the application at ApplyTexas.org and select Dallas College. Takes about 25 minutes. Pick a home campus (any works — it's one college). You'll get a welcome email with your student ID in 24–48 hours.
Your Bagrut transcript (from the Do first card). Proof of the meningitis vaccine — only required if you are under 22; if you're 22 or older you're exempt. Any test scores you have.
A placement test in reading, writing, and math. Schedule it through Dallas College. It decides your starting classes — and places you into English support (ESOL) if you want to sharpen your English. That's a good thing, not a setback.
About 1 hour, done online with your Dallas College login. You get a completion certificate — you need it before advising.
Book an appointment (in person, drop-in, or virtual). Tell them your goal: Associate of Arts, transfer track — the core curriculum that moves into UT or A&M later. They build your class plan with you.
Do it in Workday once your plan is set. Registration opens in April for Summer/Fall and November for Spring — register early for the classes you want.
Review your bill in Workday and apply your FAFSA award. Set up a payment plan if there's anything left after aid.
Coming from Israel, this is the big surprise: there's no automatic public coverage.
Read this first: Texas did not expand Medicaid, so as a healthy single adult you can't get Medicaid at any income — even $0. Don't wait for a public plan that won't come. Use the three routes below instead.
This is the real "public" option — government-subsidized private plans. Go to HealthCare.gov. Moving to Texas gives you a Special Enrollment window, so you don't have to wait for the Nov–Jan open-enrollment season.
The catch to know: subsidies only start at about $15,000/yr of reported income (100% of the poverty line). Below that, Texas gives you nothing here. So the same documented job that builds your residency is what unlocks a cheap — often near-$0 — plan. Report your real income when you apply.
Parkland is Dallas County's public hospital. Its Financial Assistance program gives free care to county residents under 200% of the poverty line — and it covers you even if your income is too low for a Marketplace subsidy. It's not insurance, but it's real access to a doctor.
Call 214-590-8000. Bring a photo ID and proof of your Dallas County address. Do this early — be in their system before you need care.
Once you're enrolled, ask your Success Coach about a student health insurance plan and the campus health clinic. Often a cheap extra option for enrolled students.
Also worth a 2-second check: if a parent has a US health plan, you can stay on it until age 26. (Probably not an option if your parents are only insured in Israel.)
You don't need this to enroll — but after 12 months these drop your tuition to the $99 in-county rate. Every item is dated, so start today.
Why it matters: in-county is $99/credit vs $250 out-of-state. Over a full course load that's thousands of dollars a year. The clock only counts if you can prove it on paper.
The issue date is your main anchor. Do this first.
Free, quick, and another dated proof of intent to stay.
A job that gives you pay stubs beats cash odd-jobs — 12 straight months of stubs is one of the strongest proofs of "gainful employment" in Texas.
A lease, a utility bill, or a phone bill in your name at your uncle's Dallas address. Keep every one.
Bank statements and bills covering the 12 months before you register are accepted proof. Start a folder now and save them all.
